Sometimes, getting something green on your plate is met with some resistance and I have to admit that it took me a while to give green beans a try because it brought up this terrible idea of soggy, almost grey, limp….beans and ain’t nobody got time for that mess.
I grab the “steam” bags from either Fresh Direct or my local supermarket – they are cleaned, washed and trimmed.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Butter (you can use EVOO or Coconut oil also)
Red Pepper Flakes
Italian Seasoning (Thyme, basil, rosemary)
Onion powder / ground onion
Chicken Stock/Veggie Stock
I don’t like to post exact measurements because I recommend that you season your food to taste.
Heat your pan on medium to high
Add enough butter to cover the bottom of the pan when melted.
Add your chopped garlic, onion and ginger to the pan
Turn the heat down – kitchen will start to smell awesome by now.
Add the green beans to the pan and make sure the garlic/onion/ginger mix is stirred in
Season your beans: salt, pepper, Italian seasoning
Add a few tablespoons of stock to the pot, just to help steam.
Cover pan – low heat for 10-15 minutes. You don’t want to over cook your beans
Check done-ness with a fork – and taste for seasoning adjustments.
Garnish with red pepper flakes – to taste.
